I live very close to canada being in upstate new york. There is a canadian band the tragically hip, who is very popular in canada and up by where i live. Most people that i talk to down here have never heard of them before. My mom called me a few weeks ago and told me that in my little town that has never had anything exciting happen in it before, the hip were playing there. I was pretty pissed about this because i would not be able to go home for the concert and i just couldnt believe they were actually playing in massena. she also mentioned they were playing in syracuse too...
One of my best friends that goes to school in pittsburg was coming up to go to their concert in syracuse. I figured i would get two tickets and find someone to go with me. It was on thursday night, the day after halloween. I found a girl to go with me and drive me because i dont have a car and it was all good. I was very excited because i know that they put on a good show. I saw them two years ago just north of montreal and it was one of the best concerts ive ever been to.
On halloween night this girl that i was suppose to go with got mad at me for no reason and decided that she did not want to go anymore. The whole next day during class i was trying to find someone to go with me because i was basically screwed. 2 hours before the concert i finally found someone who knew who they were and that wanted to go. It was time to get going.
The concert was awesome, besides the opening band. they were probably the worst music ever made. I knew alot of friends that were there from my home town and they were all 21 so i was able to drink all night long which was a bonus. after the concert my friend chelsey came back to cortland for the weekend to visit with the rest of us. Lucked Out
So the other day my friend called me up and wanted to know if i would go eat with her in syracuse that night. I said yes because i dont think i could ever turn down any offer from this girl. Without even asking where or what we were going to eat i said alright and the conversation was over. She called me back a little later and said we had reservations at 7 at some japanese restaurant. This was a problem, i do like chinese food but i cannot do japanese food at all. Because she had already got the reservations i just went along with it and sucked it up.
So it was time go to and we left around 615 so we could be there on time. This was a really popular place so I guess if we were late at all our spot would be given to anyone waiting to eat. Heading up 81 the trip was going pretty good and i was still not happy about the food selection. About half way there, there was a huge accident and we were stopped dead for about 30 minutes. I couldnt believe it, but it was the greatest thing that could have happened. She was really pissed and I was pretending to be, but inside I could not have been any happier. Needless to say we missed our reservation and had to go somewhere else. The choice of the night was olive garden and it was so much better than japanese food!

Halloween Recapp
I really wasnt sure what i was going to be for halloween or if i was even going to dress up for it, but it turned out that i did. A girl down the hall from me was going to syracuse to look for a costume and asked if i wanted to come along so i went, plus i just wanted to get away from cortland for awhile. Being on campus for an extended period of time can get annoying at times.

Fall Break
For fall break I went to Buffalo with one of my friends from home that goes to cortland. We left after classes on thursday at about 3 and got to Buffalo around 7 because we made a few stops along the way.
She was going to see her sister who had just had a baby and i was going to see my friends at UB that i went to school with last year. The car ride was really boring and we were both very tired so I didn't do too much thursday night but sit around. I went to my friends appartment at canisuis the first two nights and they were really fun. It was nice just to relax for a weekend and not do any work at all.
On saturday night i went to UB and saw a bunch of my friends from last year which was pretty exciting. Most of them didnt know that i was coming so it was a good surprise when i showed up at their house. It was a fun night, partying til the early hours of the morning and waking up very early to come back to cortland.
I was glad i didnt drive because we probably would not have made it back. I passed out the whole way back and then again once i got back to my room. Sunday was a very lazy day.
I would have to say my favorite thing about going to buffalo was eating mighty taco. I had missed eating there so much.

Pong Championship
Tonight in Glass Tower was the finals of the ping pong tournament for glass tower against clark hall. there were eight players still left and I was one of them. I really did not want to play, because all i wanted to do was watch football, but my R.A. was on me all week about winning.
It was a pretty good time. We went down to the lounge and watched the yankees game while we were playing. I was about to give up hope on them, but they pulled out game three so we'll see how the rest of the series goes. We also had pizza and wings available for us down there.
As for the ping pong tournament itself, I won my first match pretty easily. In the semi-finals I had to play probably the best person in glass tower that was going to give me a hard time. I ended up beating him in two games. Now all i had to do was sit back and watch the other semi-final game and wait for my turn. I noticed that the guy who won had absolutely no backhand at all, but dominated with his forhand. Me being a lefty took advantage of this when i played him and he couldnt not return anything i put to his backhand. I ended up winning the tournament. It felt good, but it really wasnt anything special. For winning i got to be the first name engraved on the trophy that will be up for competiion annually between clark hall and glass tower.

Public Speaking
On Wednesday night I have my public speaking class which is 2 and a half hours long. Sometimes we do not stay the whole time, but it is dreadful nonetheless. I absolutely hate speaking in front of the class and did not want to take the class at all.
This week we had to give our speeches about ourselves and something interesting that we have done. The speech had to be 4-5 minutes long and have a visual presentation as well. Going to class all i could think about was how i did not want to go first. That would probably have been the worst thing in the world.
We got to class and the professor was writing the lineup on the board of speakers. Of course my name was first on the list. I dont think i have ever been so nervous in my life.
The speech was alright and I thought i did a decent job when i was finished. I found out later that going first was much better than going last because all the pressure was off and i could sit back and watch everyone else go without and nervous feeling.

Sleepless
On monday night Halo 3 came out for 360 at midnight. My suitemate went to EB games and got it. I stayed up for a little bit and played a game, but I had 4 classes on tuesday and i didnt want to be dead tired so i went to bed by one. As i was going to bed i could hear more and more people coming in to play the game. We never even have that many people over to drink before we go out on a thursday.
It's great how my bed is right up against the wall and I can hear pretty much everything through the wall. The music was blasting and they were being very loud all night long. I thought maybe the night watch would come by and tell them to be a little quieter, but I ended up getting up at 2 and to see whats going on and the night watch were actually in the room playing with them.
It ended up being around three when they finally started to leave and quiet down to a level where i could actually think about sleeping. I do not get alot of sleep at all. I wake up all the time during the night and can never sleep in and i am always tired throughout the day. I cant even remember the last time i had a full night of sleep.

Golf
This weekend my dad came down to pick me up and we went to binghamton to golf. It was good to get away for a day and have him take me out to some good restaraunts for food. We met my cousin and his step brother there on saturday. They came up from maryland. The night before they had been on long island golfing at beth page black. the only way to get on the course is to get there the night before and sleep in your car. They were the first ones in line because they arrived there at 1 a.m. Golf is a tough enough sport with no problems, but sleeping in the car and only getting a couple hours of sleep would not help at all. After they were done there they drove to binghamton and arrived at about 5.
That night we didnt do much, but sit in the hotel because they were pretty tired. I was bored out of my mind just sitting around on a saturday night with a bunch of old guys watching television. I went down to the lobby and got something to eat and saw a big tour bus coming in. It was two girls swim teams that were coming in because they had a meet the next day. The night started to look a little better at that time.

So my suitemate signed me up for a ping pong tournament in my dorm for tonight. I have so much homework to do, but i guess i could fit some time in for ping pong. We usually go down a couple times a week to play so I thought i could do pretty good. My friends and I would always play in his basement like everyday for a couple years, but that was awhile ago. When i got down there i was playing one of the R.A's in the hall so i kind of didnt want to beat him because getting on the R.A.'s bad side might not be a good idea. However, i did end up beating him and then went on to win another match. I'm not sure how fair it was because they were using those really hard paddles that are basically just wood and I had my good paddle from home with a good amount of rubber on it.
Now there are four players from glass tower and four from clark hall that are going to play on sunday night to see who's the winner. I think i have a pretty good shot at winning it. i'm not sure what the prize is, if there even is one but hopefully it is something good.

Just Another Sunday
After getting some sleep from my long weekend. I was read to watch some football. This week was deffinately underdog week in the NFL. Obviously Arizona beat Seattle because i picked Seattle to win in my football pool. Pretty much the only underdog not to win were the dolphins my favorite team. I have a pretty good strategy from now on. Pick the opponents of the dolphins for the week and either way ill win. Either ill win my pool or the dolphins will get a win. Can't beat that.
Sunday night was the game i was looking forward to. The Chargers and the Pats. Being a dolphins fan i hate the partiots because they are in the smae division and after last week finding out that they are cheaters now makes me hate them even more. The game was not that great because the Patriots blew them away. Basically this was a terrible sunday and nothing has gone right. However, i had one last hope.
The yankees were playing the red sox sunday night and was flipping back and forth between that and the football game. The yankees are pretty much the best team ever. They were tied in the 8th 1-1 when derek jeter hit a 3 run shot to put the yanks up 4-1. I thouht the game was over and finally something had gone right today. In the bottom of the 9th I was getting pretty nervous when Rivera kept walking and getting hit. Big papi was up with 2 outs and bases loaded down by one. If there was one player in the league that i did not want up to the plate in this situation it was him. Rivera got him to pop it up and jeter made the final out. The night ended well.

Roadtrip
After class was done on thursday i came back to my room for awhile. i received a phone call from one of my friends who goes to SUNY albany. He was home in syracuse for break and wanted to hang out. He had this wonderful idea of traveling across the state to see a few of our friends. He came down to pick me up and we left around 6 to go up to oswego for the night.
I have never visited Oswego before so i was pretty excited. The night was pretty good becaue i saw a few of my friends from home and we went out to a couple places. However, i had to sleep on the floor which was not comfortable at all. I got about 2 hours of sleep then we woke up around 8 and went off back to syracuse. From there we headed up to Canton NY to visit one of my good friends who has an apartment up there.
We got to canton around 1 and my mom came to pick me up to go have lunch with her and my sister because i havnet seen them in awhile. Canton is about 40 minutes from my home town so it was close for her. That night my friend was having a party at his apartment and fit about 40 people in his 2 bedroom place. It was packed to say the least but it was a good time. This time i did not stay in the floor but a chair was not the most comfortable place in the world.

Glass Tower
When i was signing up for my dorm choice this summer I really hoped that I would get lucky enough to be put in Glass tower. Everyone i had talked to said it was by far the nicest dorm on campus. I finally received my room assignment in early august and i had been placed in glass tower. However, I wasnt really sure how my roommate was going to turn out to be. By looking on facebook before i got to school i didnt think he was going to be someone i would like very much.
Coming to cortland on the saturday before school started I finally got to see my room. Everyone in my suite was already checked in and moved in. The dorms were really nice..alot better than what i had stayed in at UB last year. My favorite thing about it is deffinately the airconditioning. Visiting other dorms i knew that it was worth it to spend the extra money to stay in glass tower.

However, my roommate is a totally different story. He wears nothing but black all the time and does nothing but play on the computer all day long. I guess he's not that bad because he doesnt bother me, but its just weird having him as a roommate. Either way everyone i have met at cortland is really cool so it should be a good year.

Kickoff Weekend
I had been waiting all weekend for sunday to come around so i could finally watch football again. This was the first year that I have got in a football pool that i have been helping my dad with the last few years. It's a knockout pool where you pick one team each week that you think is going to win. The catch is that you cannot pick one team more than once. So your indianapolis colts you might want to save for a week that is tough. I picked the eagles thinking that they would roll on Greenbay, because they have done just that the last 5 years in a row. Saturday night i met this girl who was a diehard Greenbay fan and i knew then that this was a bad sign and i should change my pick. However, it ended up being a long night to say the least and i didnt wake up until 230...and by this time it was too late to change my pick. To make a long story short philly muffed two punts and ended up losing the game in the last second. The girl i had met the previous night later showed up at my door with a cheesehead on and a packers jersey. It was a bad day. To make things worse my favorite team, the dolphins, lost in overtime to my cousins favorite team the redskins. Lets hope the rest of the season goes better than opening weekend.

the finale
last night i watched the season four finale of the best television show ever made which is entourage. it is by far the funniest show out right now. Ari is deffinately my favorite character on the show, without him there would be no entourage. I love it when he and eric get into it with eachother, ari always has something great to say. the moviestar lifestyle that is portrayed in the show is the exact replica of what i would love to have. i like the show because it doesnt jsut show the great times they have, it also shows you all the rough times they go through as well.
about the finale itself, i thought it was pretty good. it wasnt as funny as some of the others but the way everything unfolds at the end is pretty good. i love when drama gets pissed, which seems to happen almost every episode. His whole hotel situation about how he didnt have a room when he got there was great, but its good to finally see that viking quest finally gave him something he wanted. i had a feeling the way the episode was going that the movie premiere would turn out to be not good at all. even though it sucked im not worried about what they are going to do because the always turn things around.
What am i going to do sunday nights now that it is all over? i look forward to watching it every week and now i guess i have to look forward to the next season which will not be for awhile.

first day at C-State
My name is Ian and I am a sophmore who transferred from Univeristy at Buffalo. With having Mondays off with no classes I decided to go out with my suitemates. We had a pretty good time staying out until 3 in the morning. This was probably not the best decision as I found out when I woke up the next morning at 730. I had no time to eat breakfast and I got right to class.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are the worst days for me in terms of my schedule. Starting at 830 I have 4 straight classes with no breaks. This was probably the longest day ever. My first class English 200 dragged on forever listening to the things that were expected of us in that class. Surprisingly I did not fall asleep although my eyes felt like 100lbs. my next class economics was not as bad as the first one because the teacher was keeping me awake with a few jokes here and there. Halfway through this class I started to get very hungry, yet I still had until 230 before I could eat anything.
The next class CAP 100 was a life saver because the teacher was the funniest guy ever and acctually let us out a little bit early. Now I could finally get some food and maybe something to help me stay awake through my last class of the day. When professor emerson said we are going to the computer lab and doing some stuff there I felt very relieved that I would not have to sit in another classroom for another hour. When this class was done I just couldn’t wait until I got back to my room to sleep for a few hours. I guess you have to sacrafice on Tuesdays and Thursdays when you make a schedule with Mondays and Fridays off.
